Bread & Chocolate has always had a certain pull — the kind that makes you slow down, take a deep breath, and simply exist for a while. I first visited their original outlet back in 2019, but their new White Town branch has an ease about it that instantly draws you in. Minimalist, sunlit, and quietly stylish, it’s a place that feels as good as it tastes. After my morning dive with Temple Adventures, stopping here for brunch was easily one of my best post-dive decisions — a reward in every sense.
This new location doesn’t just serve good food; it celebrates a way of living. With rooftop dining, a breezy coastal view, and a small organic store downstairs that stocks handcrafted chocolates from Mason & Co. and artisanal condiments from Ishka Farms, there’s as much charm in exploring as there is in eating. Don’t miss their sea salt and capers - they’re small jars of brilliance.
The perfect breakfast plate for a slow morning. A toasted slice of sourdough layered with house-made ricotta, roasted sundried tomatoes, tangy pickled onions, and silky poached eggs - each bite balanced the richness of cheese with the brightness of the pesto and microgreens. It’s simple food done beautifully, both vibrant and comforting.
This one’s for the mustard lovers. Thick-cut sourdough sandwiches a grainy mustard filling with farm cheese and pickled onions, paired with a zesty dip and a fresh kimchi salad. The sandwich had a strong, assertive character - bold and tangy - though I did wish for a bit more balance to mellow out the mustard’s dominance. Still, the bread (as always) was top-notch - crisp-edged, airy, and rustic.
On a sun-heavy afternoon, this was a sip of calm. Light, fragrant, and just the right amount of sweet, it did exactly what it was supposed to - refresh without overpowering.
If you love coffee that speaks with clarity and depth, this one’s a must. Brewed for 16 hours using Subko Coffee’s beans, it’s rich yet surprisingly smooth, with deep chocolatey undertones and a crisp finish. For someone who first fell in love with Subko’s cold brews in Mumbai, this felt like rediscovering an old favorite in a new home.
Pure indulgence. A delicate gluten-free crust infused with coffee and 75% dark chocolate from Mason & Co., filled with a luscious chocolate ganache and topped with walnuts and cocoa nibs. It’s one of those desserts that demands silence - rich, decadent, and elegant without being overbearing.
Bread & Chocolate’s croissants are already among the best in the region, but this variant was a revelation. Buttery, crisp layers giving way to a heart of nutty, honeyed baklava filling, topped with crushed pistachios. Each bite was a melt-in-your-mouth moment - indulgent, golden, and joyously flaky.
Bread & Chocolate manages to strike that rare balance between comfort and sophistication. Everything here from the thoughtfully sourced ingredients to the relaxed, minimal design that feels intentional. It’s the kind of café where food isn’t just served, it’s crafted with care and calm. Sure, not every dish hits perfection, but the overall experience easily makes up for it. Whether it’s your first visit to Pondicherry or a familiar stop, this café is one of those few places that remind you what slow mornings and good coffee are all about - warm, grounding, and just a little indulgent.
